Gynaecologists are specialized medical professionals who focus on diagnosing and treating women's specific health conditions, and in Australia, has a Fellowship of the Specialist College (FRANZCOG). They provide a range of medical and surgical treatments and can be found in clinics, surgeries, and both public and private hospitals.

Women may seek the expertise of a gynaecologist for various reasons, including issues related to their menstrual cycle such as irregular or heavy periods, lower abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding or discomfort, infertility, contraception and family planning, miscarriage, concerns regarding their pelvic floor health, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian, cervical, or uterine cancers. Some gynaecologists take interests or even specialize in specific areas, such as:

The cost associated with seeing a gynaecologist depends on the healthcare setting. If you receive care from a gynaecologist through the public hospital system, there is no charge as Medicare covers all expenses. However, if you choose to visit a gynaecologist in a private hospital or their private clinic, it is likely that you will be required to pay a fee for their services.
